Windrush Church of England Primary School in Witney has been rated Good after its first inspection by Ofsted.

Inspectors described the school, which opened on the new Windrush Place estate in 2021, as a place where “staff radiate enthusiasm for teaching”.

Inspectors added:

  • “Pupils are happy, settled and achieving well in this friendly and welcoming school.
  • “Classrooms are calm, and there is a purposeful buzz of learning.
  • “Staff expect all pupils to do their very best. They build warm and respectful relationships with pupils, who feel valued and secure as a result.
  • “The school is committed to the local community and to making sure that all pupils learn well and thrive.
  • “Parents are pleased with the school and are rightly confident that their children are in safe hands.”

The school’s headteacher, Claire Doland, said: “The inspectors rightly recognised the commitment and enthusiasm of the school’s staff; they deserve all the warm words.

“We are also pleased with the praise for the inclusive nature of the school, the partnerships we have established with parents and the work we have done to place the school at the heart of this fantastic new community.”

RLT’s chief executive, Paul James, said: “We are very happy with all aspects of this report, but particularly with the comments about strong relationships that have been established with parents and the wider local community.

“The best schools are right at the heart of their communities, and this is clearly the case with Windrush. Claire and her team should be really proud of what has been achieved so far.”
